ISSA - Minnesota Chapter Meeting Minutes

Membership and Corporate Sponsors

The Membership Director announced the new members and corporate sponsors.  He also stated that the chapter has over 300 members, including our corporate sponsor members.

 

CISSP Class and Exam

For the third consecutive year, the Minnesota Chapter is partnering with ISC2 and Century College to host a CISSP Common Body of Knowledge (CBK) class and CISSP/SSCP exam.

A study group is also being formed and is being hosted by Shavlik Technologies.  For more details on the class and exam, go to http://www.mn-issa.org.

 

Scholarship program

The chapter has a college scholarship program for the children of members who are high school seniors or in their first 4 years of college.  Applications are due no later than March 1, 2004.  The winner(s) will be notified in April and will presented the scholarship at the May, 2004 chapter meeting.   Application forms are on the chapter website http://www.mn-issa.org.

 

Chapter Shirts must be ordered by 11/1

The chapter is providing members a shirt with the chapter logo.  A sample of the shirt was shown at the meeting.  To order a shirt go to the website http://www.mn-issa.org.

 

Future Meeting Topics

The chapter President asked if members would be interested in a presentation on the Sarbanes Oxley Act and how it impacts security professionals.  He also asked if members would be interested in a vendor panel for spam filtering.  A show of hands for each topic indicated that members were not interested.

 

CPE credits for attending ISSA meetings 

The board has decided they will not submit attendance records from the chapter meetings and members need should submit their own information for CPE’s.  The board will continue to have sign-up sheets at each chapter meetings and keep those sheets for 3 years in case they are needed for future verification to ISC2.

 

Homeland Security Conference

There is a Homeland Security Conference that will be held October 23 – 24 in Washington, D.C.  If anyone is interested in more information about the conference, contact Kelley Archer.

 

ISSA Annual Conference and Quarterly President’s Teleconference

Chapter President, Kelley Archer will be representing the chapter at the ISSA Annual Conference in December in New York.  He will be attending the annual Chapter President meeting.  Kelley will also participate in the quarterly Chapter President’s teleconference on September 24.

 

Nomination for Professional of the Year. 

Rick Ensenbach was nominated by the chapter for the ISSA International Professional of the Year award.  

 

Chapter of the Year

Chapter President, Kelley Archer submitted the MN chapter for the ISSA International Chapter of the Year award.

 

Audit Committee

Volunteers were needed to audit the chapter’s financial records.  Two chapter members volunteered.

 

Chapter Elections for Board of Directors

The election for 3 Board member positions will be at the November chapter meeting..  The positions are:  President, Vice President and Recording Secretary.  Kelley Archer and Linda Zeis have expressed their interested in returning to their current positions of President and Recording Secretary.  Rick Ensenbach was nominated for the Vice President position.
